Rainbow Roofs main function is to give social housing tenants who are LGBT+ a voice they may not otherwise have and to hold their housing providers to account .

A number of  LGBT+  tenants have said that they do not  feel their housing providers really understand their needs , others felt scared of revealing their LGBT+ identity while some tenants admit to hiding or moving any LGBT+ related  items from view in their homes because they do not feel comfortable when housing staff or repair operatives call .

At Rainbow Roofs we seek to break down those barriers as well as supporting LGBT+ tenants to tackle stigma , hate crime , anti social behaviour and  anti trans and non binary sentiment in their communities .

We also work closely with other groups to enable our members to be more visible and comfortable engaging in their communities.

Since our formation in 2020 we have  emerged as a leading voice in the world of social housing. We have spoken on stage at CIH conferences in 2023 and 2024  , Housing 25 , hosted our own conference  (jointly with our parent group HouseProud North) on hate crime in 2022 , appeared in online webcasts,   working with AKT , Stonewall Housing,  Housing Diversity Network,  Housing Quality Network among others .
